WSB Supports Watertown Youth Hockey Team

Loomis Fund to Stephen Goodrich, Retired Assistant Fire Chief, Fort Drum Fire & Emergency Services, along with Wendy Truesdell and Mike Marks from the Garrett W. Loomis Foundation.  The Northern New York Community Foundation established The Garrett Loomis Firefighters Fund to honor Sackets Harbor Fire Department Assistant Chief Garrett W. Loomis, who lost his life in 2010 from injuries sustained while fighting a silo fire in the town of Hounsfield.  The Fund provides grants to assist fire departments in obtaining training needed to address the unique requirements that agricultural related emergencies present.

The Purple Heart Scholarship Fund was established for service members who have been awarded the Purple Heart, and their immediate family members (spouse or child). Funds for this permanent endowment are raised each year by the Watertown Rotary club and managed by the Northern New York Community Foundation.

WSB SUPPORTS HONOR THE MOUNTAIN

Gil Pearsall, HR Director for the Watertown Daily Times accepts a check for $5,000.00 from Christine Powers, Commercial Loan Officer, WSB in support of the North Country Honors the Mountain project.  The City of Watertown has donated a location for the 10th Mountain Division to erect a monument: Tower Square in Thompson Park.  2015 marked the 30th anniversary of the reactivation of the 10th Mountain Division and the 70th anniversary of the Division’s victory in Italy during the Second World War. The North Country honors the sacrifice and service of the 10th Mountain Division Soldiers, their family members and the Fort Drum Civilian Workforce. The monument will be unveiled in July 2016. Meredith Fiorentino, Business Development Officer WSB, presents a check to Leslie Robare, Director of the 18.12 Challenge, for sponsorship of the 18.12 Challenge and half Marathon.  To commemorate the war of 1812 and to honor Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division, the 18.12 mile challenge and half marathon will begin in Watertown and end on the historic 1812 battleground in Sackets Harbor overlooking Lake Ontario.

Mark Lavarnway stands with Joshua Elmer of Watertown; winner of the WSB Cup Scholarship Award at Watertown High School.  Joshua also was a recipient of two other Watertown High awards – the Gary M. Jones award and the Christopher P. Waite award. He will attend St. Lawrence University in the fall and will major in biology.

The female recipient of the WSB Cup Scholarship Award at Watertown High School is Kira Kolb (not pictured) of Watertown.  Kira also won the William I. Graf award at Watertown High for her involvement in sports – She participated in basketball, lacrosse, soccer and Booster Club. She was Captain of the varsity lacrosse and soccer teams. She is a swim instructor at the YMCA. She will be attending Mercyhurst University and majoring in graphic design.

   
Ralph F. Brouty WSB Scholarship Learn More

The 2016 Ralph F. Brouty Watertown Savings Bank Scholarship was awarded to recipients, Kassandra Davis and Lyndsey Young.  Kassandra is majoring in Business Administration at JCC with the goal of becoming a CPA.  Lyndsey is also majoring in Accounting at JCC this fall.  The Ralph F. Brouty Watertown Savings Bank Scholarship is funded by Watertown Savings Bank and administered through The Northern New York Community Foundation.  Congratulations to Kassandra and Lyndsey.

WSB Recieves Innaugural Founders Award from DPAO Learn More

President of Watertown Savings Bank Mark R. Lavarnway was presented with the first ever “Founders Award” by DPAO.  The now-retired founder and executive director Joseph L. Rich, presented Mr. Lavarnway with a plaque honoring him for his support and fundraising over the years. According to Mr. Rich, Mr. Lavarnway and Watertown Savings Bank have given over $100,000 to the organization in the last five years.

WSB Supports Annual Festival of Trees Learn More

Taking place at the Dulles State Office Building from December 2nd - 4th, this unique festival highlights the spirit of the season with activities throughout the weekend for the entire family. A Gala, featuring a live auction, dinner, and music takes place on Friday evening, followed by the Sugarplum Ball (father/daughter dance) on Saturday Evening and public viewing all three days. This year’s theme is “Season of Giving” and will feature over 50 trees decorated to create a magically festive setting, along with musical performances.
